This is Afreen Asif, a 6th-grade student at HMS, Koramangala. Her birthday was on September 28th. Like her family, she also doesn’t have much interest in typical birthday celebratios. However, she had a desire to do something special on her birthday.
She shared this wish with her father. Initially, she thought of donating the little money she had saved over time to an orphanage. He agreed to this idea.
It was around this time that a poster for HWA’s Scholarship Collection Drive caught her attention. She immediately told her mother, “In that case, I can donate this money to HWA’s scholarship program, but there’s one thing—I don’t want anyone to know that I’m donating this money.”
Yesterday, she’s father called me and told me about this story. I told him I could come to their house that night to collect the money. When I arrived, we talked a little about HWA’s scholarship program, and I explained him that this year, scholarships are being provided to 225+ students, including orphans.
To hand over the money, they called Afreen. At first, she was hesitant to come forward, as she had no interest in anyone knowing about her contribution. However, when we told her that this kind act could inspire many other children to do the same, she came joyfully and handed over the money she had saved to HWA.
Indeed, the strength of HWA lies in the hearts of people like Afreen, who, understand the struggles of the underprivileged people in the society, and are willing to share from what they cherish most, with others.
HWA extends its congratulations and prayers to dear Afreen and her parents, who supported her in fulfilling her noble wish.
